Our first Pop Up Torquay!

We planned the first Pop Up Torquay for 30th August 2014 at Torquay Town Hall and like all events the planning is essential.

We had lots of interest from traders keen to have an outlet on a Saturday that was fairly priced and who were enthusiastic about being involved with something that was new in the town centre.

We always knew that we wanted to repeat the successful format of our previous events which means creating a social space for traders & customers - not cramming in lots of stalls but making a place where people can look, have a chat, meet, have a coffee, some cake, listen to music and enjoy a community experience so the key to that was a diverse mix of traders, a great cafe and interesting music.

We had 30 traders: a combination of artists & makers, antiques & vintage, quality accessories & quirky homewares and vintage clothing but we also had sweets and a 'well-being' corner so it was an alternative to the kind of market that's usually on offer in Torquay.

We set up a lovely social cafe area and The Ladybug Cake Company put flowers on the tables and served all their drinks in real china mugs at only 80p each - so no silly prices and no polystyrene cups (What a treat!) and baked lots of delicious cakes and biscuits (Double treat!)

We played a great selection of music all day to keep everyone's toes tapping and we had a couple of hours of live music too from our good friends The Hot House Four - a band made up of four talented family members who have been playing at lots of local festivals and events - they always go down a storm!

We had street entertainers outside and inside to add to the experience too!

One of the stall holders wrote a blog about their experience of trading and the whole day which you can read here!
